This investment is transformational. It will fund the immediate development of three large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects and a battery energy storage system (BESS), delivering 716 MW in new export capacity to the grid directly supporting South Africa’s urgent need for reliable, dispatchable power.
Mulilo’s commitment underscores the central role of private capital in unlocking South Africa’s energy transition — and doing so at speed and scale.
Beyond this R15 billion commitment, Mulilo is actively progressing a substantial pipeline of projects toward a goal of one gigawatt per year, positioning the business to deploy significantly more capital in the near term and further accelerate the build-out of renewable energy infrastructure.
Seithati Bolipombo, Chief Commercial Officer at Mulilo, said:
“This commitment reflects our conviction that South Africa is on a positive trajectory towards a just energy transition supported by private sector investment in renewable energy.
We are not only investing capital — we are investing in long-term partnerships that unlock infrastructure, create jobs, and deliver tangible impact where it is needed most. With the right collaboration across government, regulators and industry, South Africa can move faster, build at scale, and fully realise the opportunity of its energy transition.”
Mulilo remains firmly committed to partnering with government, regulators, financiers and communities to translate investment into delivery, ensuring that projects move from commitment to construction — and from construction to sustained national impact.
