Mulilo reached Financial close in November 2024 on 3 battery energy storage system (BESS) projects for the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy’s inaugural battery energy storage system independent power producer procurement programme (BESIPPPP). The three projects – Oasis Aggeneis, Oasis Mookodi, and Oasis Nieuwehoop - with a combined capacity of 257 MW/1,028 MWh, are located in the Northern Cape and North West Provinces, providing cost-effective and efficient storage to bolster the country's electricity grid. The projects are operating under a 15-year power purchase agreement with Eskom.
Mulilo, together with TotalEnergies, has commenced construction on two renewable energy sites for the long-term supply of 260 MW of renewable power to Sasol and Air Liquide from a 140 MW wind facility and a 120 MW solar facility. Power will be supplied to Sasol’s Secunda site, where Air Liquide operates the biggest oxygen production site in the world. Together, these two sites will generate approximately 28,000 MWh of renewable energy each operational year.
Mulilo, in partnership with Air Products South Africa, achieved Financial Close in early December 2024 for the 75 MW Ukuqala Solar Energy Facility. Air Products South Africa will purchase 100% of the electricity generated from Ukuqala Solar through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Mulilo. The facility, currently under construction, will have the capacity to generate approximately 240 GWh of electricity annually.
